Ho-Ho Solo Toys

SCCA Races Santa to T.C. Thompson

On Wednesday, Dec. 17th, Art Thompson, Will Perry, Jamie Hamilton, and Ruthie Cartlidge delivered the spoils of the Dec. 7th Ho Ho Solo to T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital. The generous donations of the autocrossers and the Chattanooga Auto Auction filled the trunks of two Honda CRX racecars. (The Hwy. 153 Wal-Mart also contributed with a gift card toward the purchase of some toys). Lots of heads were turning, during lunch hour, as Art and Will paraded through downtown Chattanooga on their way to Erlanger Medical Center.

Dr. Jim Osborne, of Chili Pepper Racing, met the ITC sleighs at the entrance, along with hospital representative Lois Simpson. WTVC's Kim Chapman, and cameraman, were on hand while Art and Will loaded two gurneys with the toys. Once the haul was inside the hospital, Dr. Osborne kindly acted as spokesman for the whole Chattanooga Region. He said that, even though the kids at T.C. Thompson are getting important treatment, they feel as if they're stuck there, especially during the Holidays. The gift of the toys, "gives them a feeling of Christmas and being home."

Race cars full of ToysSanta will deliver the toys to the hospitalized children on Christmas Eve.

The Ho Ho Solo autocrossers and the entire Chattanooga Region should be proud of our accomplishment this Holiday. Last year, we succeeded in filling one racecar full of toys. This year, so many toys were donated that we filled two. Next year, wanna go for three?

-- Ruthie Cartlidge

November Meeting Minutes
November 4, 2003 -- Komatsu

The November meeting at Komatsu was called to order with 17 members present.

The minutes from our previous meeting were approved as posted on the website.

Gerald Street gave a treasurer's report. We still have about $9,000 even after deducting the losses from the RallySprint.

A reminder from Gerald that everyone needs to send him their reservations for the Awards Banquet on the Southern Belle Riverboat. He needs the reservations by December 10 and a reservation form is on the website. Make checks payable to CRSCCA.

The slate of officers that was presented at the last meeting was approved tonight. The 2004 CRSCCA Officers will be:

Bill Perry Regional Executive
Mike Strawbridge Asst. Regional Executive
Gerald Street Treasurer
Gail Perry Secretary
Billy Miller Activities Director
Cheryl Tompkins Board of Directors
John Barrett Board of Directors
Dave Hester Board of Directors
Will Perry Board of Directors

We need volunteers to serve on the Solo II and Rally committees. Mike Strawbridge will be contacting people for the Rally committee and Dave Hester and Billy Miller will work on the Solo II committee. We need points keepers for Solo I and Solo II, RallyCross, Road Rally, and Performance Rally. Art Thompson has agreed to keep the points for Road Race. Will Perry has agreed to continue as Licensing Chair. Gail Perry will take the Membership Chair if Jamie Hamilton is too busy next year. If Leah Barrett will continue as Downshift Editor, we have a volunteer to help - Ruthie Cartlidge; and if Leah does not want to continue, Ruthie said she would do it.

If you have suggestions for the superlative awards, please contact an officer of the club. The categories are: Member of the Year, Worker of the Year, Most Improved Driver and Rookie of the Year.

The proposed Solo II at Dalton was discussed, but no decision was made as there was no one from the Solo committee present. Apparently there is a law in Georgia against "laying drags", and that would present a problem for some of the Fairgound people.

Van insurance was discussed and we have a quote for $734.00 for liability only. We will continue to look for insurance at an affordable price.

Solo I Report - We had several members go to the Solo I at Talladega and Dave Hester set a lap record in his class.

Solo II Report - No events

Road Rally - No Events

RallyCross - The Georgia Frost RallyCross only had 11 entries, but all competitors had fun.

Performance Rally - The DiamondBack RallySprints were held with only 7 entries. We did have several people work the event and get a refresher course in stage timing and marshaling spectators.

Road Race - Ruthie Cartlidge and Dave Hester attended the recent Driving School at VIR. Both did well and enjoyed it - got lots of track time.

Art Thompson entered the ECR at VIR and finished third of six. He finished third in the series for the year.

The ARRC is this weekend. Will Perry and Vesa Silegren are entered in the ARRC race and in the Endurance Race. Art and Ruthie are planning to work corners.

October Meeting Minutes
October 7, 2003 -- Komatsu

Our October meeting was held at the Komatsu plant, with 21 members and guests present.

The minutes from our previous meeting were approved as posted on the website.

Gerald Street gave a treasurer’s report, indicating that we are still maintaining a healthy cash balance.

The board of directors presented a slate of officers and members present were given an opportunity to make other nominations for next year’s board members and officers. The elections will be at our November meeting.

Bill Perry and Mike Strawbridge gave a report from last week’s Topeka ProRally Partners Conference, which Bill attended. Briefly SCCA and Rally Organizers want more consistency in the difference events. To achieve that there has been advertising sold to sponsors that will provide the following:

• signs
• advertising in programs, promotional posters, and fan guides
• a traveling podium
• timing and scoring by Rally-America
• registration on-line system
• only one service area at an event
• each rally keeps the same date each year
• $7,000-$12,000 per event to organizers
• consistent entry fees

They want a Rally somewhere in the SE division in the fall of 2004 and plan to give out the year-end awards at that event; and then have a full ProRally in 2005.

We have a RallySprint scheduled for October 25th and a RallyCross on Sunday October 26th. We plan to have worker training at the RallySprint and hope to have at least 10 cars, with a limit of 20 cars. Carl has a worker sign-up sheet up and we need about 25-30 workers. Sign up soon.

We hope to be able to secure road permits for 3 Rallies next year. Plans are for a ClubRally on March 6th, a ClubRally in May and the end-of-the-year event mentioned above in the fall.

We voted to spend up to $500.00 for several E-Z up canopies for corner and course workers at our events.

Bill asked for a volunteer to fill out the information for the Region Achievement Award and Art Thompson more or less volunteered. Thanks Art.

There is also a WRXtra information to be filled in and a copy was sent to Stuart Wood.

Billy Miller reported that he and Scott Dobler have looked at the proposed Solo II site in Dalton and will try to get an event scheduled for November.

Our next meeting will be at Komatsu, November 4.

Road Race Report by Art Thompson: At the SARRC Invitational Challenge at Roebling Road October 5, Will Perry came in second and Art Thompson finished 6th. Will won the ITC championship and Art finished 4th in the series. Ken Walker finished 2nd in the championship series in FP in his Honda Civic. Dwight Floyd finished 4th in the championship in SPU class.

Solo I Report by Dave Hester: There are 3 more Solo I’s this year: Talladega, VIR and Roebling Road.

Solo II Report – no event in September.

Road Rally Report by Mike Strawbridge: The Border Line Road Rally was very successful this year with 10 cars. It was a beautiful day and everybody had a great time. Results are posted on the website.

September Meeting Minutes
September 2, 2003 -- Holiday Trav-L-Park

The meeting was called to order at the Holiday Trav-L Park meeting room with 23 members and guests present.

The minutes from our previous meeting were approved as posted on the website.

Gerald Street gave the treasurer’s report. We are maintaining a good balance in our checking account. Gerald has requested that we always collect entry fees at our events. No IOU’s or people wanting to mail us a check later. Fees must be paid or people cannot run. Also, when the club owes members money for purchases made, please give Gerald the ticket and he will reimburse you with a check. Please do not deduct amounts owed from your entry fees.

Gerald would also like for everyone who plans to attend the awards banquet on the Southern Belle Riverboat, January 10, 2004 to have reservations and money paid to the club by December 10th. We will ask Carl to post a reservation form on the website soon.

One of our new members, Tony Armour, has offered us a Chattanooga Region Forum, which would actually be a sub-forum on streetcarsforums.com. The only way to get to the forum would be a link from rivergate5speed.com. There will be sections for Rally, Solo I, Solo II, General Discussion and classified ads. The forum will be free for our use. It will have advertising space available. We will need a moderator although Tony says he and Larry Taylor will handle that for now. Anyone can look at the site, but to post on it, you will have to register. The members present voted to accept his offer and we will ask Carl to handle the link to the forum.

RoadRally Report: Mike Strawbridge reminded us that the Border Line Rally will be September 20, out of the Dalton Courtyard Marriott. Registration at 11 AM. He is going to send Ruthie information for publicity for the event.

RallyCross Report: Our next event will be Sunday September 14th at the Diamond Back facility in Resaca, Georgia. Dave Brooks is the organizer.

ClubRally Report: We are pursuing road permits and hope to have a late fall event.

Solo II Report: The event scheduled for October 19 (no location announced) needs to be moved because that is the week-end of the Petite LeMans race at Road Atlanta. The possible event at the Whitfield County Fairgrounds is on hold for now due to the cost of renting the facility. The Solo II Nationals are this weekend in Topeka.

Solo I Report: Steve Tompkins has been asked to look at a road located by Stuart Wood in the Whitwell-Palmer area. Stuart believes it will be a good site for a hillclimb. There are three events left on the schedule – Talladega, VIR and Roebling Road.

Road Race Report: Art Thompson reported on this past week-ends event at Road Atlanta. Will Perry won two SARRC races and Art finished fourth in each race. Will is leading the ITC SARRC points race and Art is currently 5th overall of 58 entries in ITC. The champion will be decided at the SARRC Invitational Challenge at Roebling Road in early October. Art is currently tied for 2nd place in the ECR series. Dr. Jim Osborn and Ken Dobson are doing well in the Pro Series, winning $2,000.00 for T. C. Thompson Children’s Hospital in August.

The members present expressed the view that our region dues should remain the same for next year.

At our next meeting the board will recommend a slate of officers. At that meeting, additional nominations may be made, with written permission of the person nominated and signatures of two members. We will vote at the November meeting. Absentee ballots can be arranged.

We now have 155 members.

Jamie Hamilton will continue to count the points for the “Speed Freakz” of the Year thru this year and a trophy will be presented at the awards banquet. This will be the last year since SCCA has dropped the Speed Freakz program.

Our next meeting will be at Komatsu on Signal Mountain Blvd. on Tuesday, October 7th at 7 PM.

Secretary, Chattanooga Region

August Meeting Minutes
August 5, 2003 -- Komatsu

The meeting was called to order at Komatsu with 23 members and guests present.

The minutes from our previous meeting were approved as posted on the web page.

Gerald Street gave a treasurer's report that indicated our bank balance is holding steady.

Chattanooga Region has a new member - Memo Gidley from California. We seem to be getting several new members because of our low region fees.

BUSINESS

ROAD RALLY:

Because Mike Strawbridge is on vacation, Alan Syler gave an update on the divisional Road Rally. It will be called the Borderline Road Rally and held on September 20th. It will start in Dalton with the same format as last year. Start time is 11:00 AM. See the web site for more details. Points earned will count in three different series: Georgia Sports Car Club, Chattanooga Region Road Rally and Divisional Road Rally points series. The Divisional winners of the three classes will win entries to the National Road Rally Championship.

CLUBRALLY:

Bill Perry gave an update on the "Heart of Dixie ClubRally" scheduled for November 1. Beryl Ann Burton is coming down to assist Mike Strawbridge in organizing a ClubRally and meetings have been scheduled to apply for road permits. This Rally will be observed by SCCA to determine if we should have a Divisional ProRally next year.

There will be a Rally Organizer's and sponsor meeting in October in Topeka. Chattanooga Region expects to have a representative there.

Wilson von Kessler resigned from his position as Rally Co-Chairman because he was not notified in advance of the Chattanooga Region Board of Director's unanimous decision to ask for SEDIV assistance in organizing a ProRally next year. (Actually several attempts were made to contact him, but he did not return the messages left on his voice mail.) Wilson is staying on as a member of CR SCCA, but will not be assisting us in our efforts to have SCCA Rallies in the Southeast.

The members present approved a $4,000.00 budget for the ClubRally this fall. We have the possibility of sponsorship.

SOLO II:

A Whitfield County Fair Board member contacted Bill. He asked if we would consider holding a Solo II in one of the parking lots at the Fairground there. Steve Tompkins has looked at the site and thinks it can be done. Scott Dobler is going down to take a look at it as soon as he has time.

The Solo II Supplemental Regulations are now posted on our web site.

Our next meeting will be held on September 2nd. Location will probably be Holiday Trav-L Park, but that is not official yet.

SPORTING

Solo I

Dave Hester told us that there may be another Hill Climb site next year at the Snowshoe Resort in West Virginia. They have 7 miles of pavement. It will be a great site if all works as hoped. The Solo I schedule for the remainder of this year is great.

Solo II

At the August 3rd Autocross at the Auto Auction there were 22 competitors. Low turnout was probably due to the rain that morning. Each car has 6 runs and they were finished by 4:00.

Dave Hester says there were 122 entries at the Nashville Divisional Solo II and that it went fairly well.

Road Race

Art Thompson, Ken Walker and Dwight Floyd went to the Lowe's ECR and SARRC. Art finished 4 in ITC in the ECR and 3rd in the SARRC race. Kenn Walker was second in the FP SARRC race and Dwight Floyd was third in SPU SARRC race.

Art Thompson, Will Perry, Kenn Walker and Dwight Floyd went to the Road Atlanta ECR & SARRC.

Points Standings are as follows:

Will is 1st in SARRC ITC points and Art is 3rd (out of 54 drivers).
Kenn is 2nd in FP SARRC points (16 drivers).
Dwight is 4th in SPU SARRC points (18 drivers).
Art is 3rd in ITC ECR points (19 drivers).

In the Speed World Touring Car race at Road Atlanta on June 29th, Dr. Jim Osborn went out after 14 laps with mechanical troubles. His teammate, Ken Dobson finished 12 out of 40 drivers. He donated his winnings to the T. C. Thompson Children's Hospital and Remote Area Medical.

The next event will be at Road Atlanta Labor Day weekend. It will be a Double SARRC.

Performance Rally:

Stuart Wood gave a Cherokee Trails Rally update. The date is September 5-6. It will be a relatively simple 2 day event. Recce will be on Friday and the Rally will be run on Saturday. The cars can be seen in the Service Area in Downtown Cleveland, but there is no spectator stage. The Organizers are hoping for 50 to 60 entries and there will be a FIA observer.

RallyCross:

There is a Tennessee Valley Region RallyCross this weekend in Huntsville. Our next RallyCross is scheduled for September 7th at Resaca. Dave Brooks will be the organizer.

Secretary, Chattanooga Region

Secretary, Chattanooga Region

June Meeting Minutes
June 3, 2003 -- Holiday Trav-L-Park

The meeting was called to order with 22 members present. The minutes of our previous meeting were approved as posted on the web site.

The treasurer's report shows that we are maintaining a comfortable balance in our checking account.

The Solo II Committee has created a set of Supplemental Regulations. They are being forwarded to Carl to be posted on the web site. We hope everyone will read them on-line and bring up any questions at the next meeting.

SoloIIsupps-Draft.pdf        SoloIIsupps-Draft.rft        SoloIIsupps-Draft.doc
(Same document in three formats)

Due to the resignation of Nathan Peters, we are looking for a couple of tech inspectors for Solo II. Scott Dobler says the Committee has several names and they are hoping to have the positions filled in about a week.

Stuart Wood has agreed to be the Subaru Coordinator and Bill Perry will keep the Subaru Points. Stuart has also agreed to serve on the Rally Committee.

At a previous meeting, we voted to have our Awards Banquet on the Chattanooga Riverboat again this coming January. At tonight's meeting, we voted to handle the reservations like we did last year. We voted to pay a portion of member tickets again this year. Each member may bring one guest at the discounted price of $12.00 and all additional guests will pay full price of $25.00.

Thirteen people have filled out Rally Worker License Applications to be sent on to Central Licensing.

Plans were discussed for the Summer Shoot-Out weekend. Dave Brooks has agreed to be the organizer for the RallyCross. Gail Perry will be registrar for the RallyCross and Jennifer Dobler has volunteered to assist. Registration for the Road Rally will be at the trailer at the end of the RallyCross. The Solo II portion of the weekend will be on Sunday at the Chattanooga Auto Auction. Jennifer Dobler will be the registrar for this event and Gail Perry volunteered to assist her. We need someone to volunteer to host a cookout Saturday evening at the end of the Road Rally. (HELLOOOO VOLUNTEERS!) There was discussion of a reduced entry fee for anyone entering all three events and cumulative points (with trophy) for entrants who participate in all three events. The two committees will work out fees.

Cherokee Trails has been moved to September 5-6, with no changes in routes or locations. Rally Promotions is planning to apply for sanctions for two Coefficient 3 ClubRally events to run with the FIA event. John Shirley reported on plans for an Eastern US ClubRally Championship in 2004. This would include, among others, Sandhills, Sandblast, a March event in Cherokee, a May event in the Ducktown area and perhaps, a north Georgia event in early September. If this plan works out we certainly will have enough events for workers to advance their license levels!

Cherokee Trails is no longer a part of the Rally Series of North America. Since the event in September will be during the school year, we are going to have to recruit workers. John and Kendall are meeting with the Porsche Club to try to get workers. The Ingram Group has been retained for this same purpose. They are also working to get the Bowater roads for the spectator stages.

Solo I Report:  Dave Hester reported on the Hillclimb in North Carolina. They had 73 competitors with 4 runs on Saturday and 4 runs on Sunday. The local people are very enthusiastic about the event and are already starting plans for next year.

Solo II Report:  Scott Dobler said we had 49 competitors last weekend at the event at the Chattanooga Auto Auction lot. With the exception of a computer glitch or two, everything ran smoothly. There were 6 runs plus several dollar runs and were finished by 6 pm.

Road Race Report:  Art Thompson reported on the recent event at Kershaw. Art finished 2nd in the SARRC race. Rusty White was there, but due to problems with his RX7 Turbo, did not finish the event. Art finished 3rd in the ECR, with lots of help from crew: Chuck Fullgraf and Ruthie Cartlidge.

RallyCross Report:  Randy Bailey and Dave Brooks took Dave's VW to Huntsville and came in 1st and 2nd overall.

Road Rally Report:  Mike and Janice Strawbridge went to the Bellbuckle gimmick rally recently. It was a money-raising event for a new children's park. They had 19 entries and a great time.

Performance Rally Report:  Wilson von Kessler is working on sanction and insurance for the RallySprint we have scheduled for mid July.

Secretary, Chattanooga Region

May Meeting Minutes
May 6, 2003 -- Holiday Trav-L-Park

The meeting was called to order with 33 members and guests present.

The minutes from our previous meeting were approved as posted on the web site.

Bill Perry reports that we now have 188 members in our region.

There has been a suggestion that anyone who drives the club van and trailer to an event be excused from further work assignments for that event.

Work on the proposed ClubRally in Marion County for July 5th is progressing. Road permits are being applied for and we will announce more plans after permits are approved. The members present approved a budget of $3500.00 for this event if we are able to get road permits.

We still hope to have a Rally September 6th in Lafayette and November 15th in Tellico if road permissions can be arranged.

The Solo II Committee wants to have our next Autocross at the Chattanooga Auto Auction lot. We will ask for permission to use it June 1st. We are buying two more loaner helmets and two more FRS radios for our events.

Cherokee Trails Rally has been postponed again - probably to September. A date will be announced soon.

Road Race Report - Art reported that Will Perry has two more SARRC wins bringing his total to 5. Art is going to the Memorial weekend races at Kershaw.

One of our new members - Efren Ormaza has offered any Chattanooga Region member a 10% discount in his restaurant - Terra Nostra. This does not include alcoholic beverages. Efren and Dr. Jim Osborn are planning to co-drive in an endurance race in Ecuador in September.

After a brief meeting we played "Rally Games". This included a "Rally" quiz and a mock rally in the campground. This was a lot of fun! But attrition was high. Of four cars entered in he "Rallye de Trav'L Park", one was DNS, one DNF, one "crashed out with fatalities" and only one finished.

April Meeting Minutes
April 1, 2003 -- Holiday Trav-L-Park

The meeting was called to order with 36 members and guests present.

The minutes from the last meeting and from the board meeting were approved as published on the webpage.

The objectives as outlined in the board of directors minutes were discussed, especially the plans for the "Subaru Cup".

Trey Commander made a presentation on Axware timing and scoring equipment system. We voted to allocate $1,400.00 for the purchase of this system. Trey hopes to have it purchased and ready for the next Autocross. Trey also managed to get a computer donated to the club to operate the new system.

David Brooks is the organizer for the April RallyCross. Janice Strawbridge will be registrar, Bill Perry will be the safety steward and Randy Bailey will do tech inspections. Dave wants to set the course up on Friday evening before the event and would appreciate assistance.

The website for the rally is www.cherokeetrailsrally.com. There is a list of jobs available and a worker form which can be printed, filled out and mailed to Rally Promotions. Kendall says that you will soon be able to fill out the form and register on-line.

Scott Dobler and the Solo II Committee are working on supplemental regulations for our Solo II events and hope to have them approved and ready by the next Autocross.

Road Race Report by Art Thompson: At the Inaugural Races at Barber Motorsports Park March 15-16, Will Perry finished first and Vesa Silegren second in both the Regional Race on Saturday and the SARRC race on Sunday. Art finished fourth on Saturday and 5th on Sunday. Anthony Henderson finished second in Formula Vee both days. Will and Art went to VIR for a SARRC race the following week-end, finishing first and fourth respectively. In the Endurance Race, Art finished 4th while experiencing overheating problems.

At a World Challenge Pro Series Touring class race at Sebring recently, Dr. Jim Osborn finished 11th out of 40 entrants.

Last year there were 33 road races in the Southeast Division with 6252 drivers.

Solo I Report by Dave Hester: There will be a hillclimb at Sparta, North Carolina the weekend of May 17th. It starts with a Friday evening car show with racing on Saturday and Sunday.

Solo II Report by Scott Dobler: The next Autocross will be April 27 at the Chattanooga Auto Auction. The event there in March was very successful with 72 entries.

Road Rally Report by Mike Strawbridge: There is a Gimmick Road Rally April 5th beginning at FasTech on Lee Highway at 3:00 and finishing at Rivergate in Soddy-Daisy with a cookout.

RallyCross Report by Wilson von Kessler: Next event will be April 19th in Resaca, GA. Organizer and workers listed above. Randy Bailey has found a VW Rabbit which he is fixing up to donate to the landowner and property manager in Resaca. We voted to allocate $100.00 for a water pump and fuel pump to finish the repairs.

ClubRally Report by Bill Perry: We are still trying to get Tellico worked out and Wilson is still working on an event in Lafayette, Georgia.

John Barrett requested that everyone get their articles in to Leah ASAP for the next newsletter.

March Board of Directors Meeting Minutes
March 25, 2003 -- Komatsu

We discussed objectives for 2003 and whether we wanted to compete for the Region Achievement Award this year. We decided to set objectives in line with what we have been planning as normal activities and we will submit them to the national office.

Objectives adopted were:

  1. Operate our events so that competitors and workers proclaim them "Fun" and measure how much fun people have at events.

  2. Keep our entry fees and annual dues low, yet attempt to maintain a comfortable cash balance.

  3. Develop programs to get more people involved in our activities. For 2003 our emphasis will be on our Subaru WRX members. We also decided to add an end of the year award - "Subaru Performance Award" which will simply be a total of all points gained in all six of our competition points championships by a member who is a Subaru driver.

  4. Increase recognition of Chattanooga Region, SCCA and SCCA itself in our area.

  5. Develop more event officials. Use our experienced officials and organizers to mentor new people to broaden our "work force".

Scott Dobler will work on a design for posters and flyers to be distributed to car dealers and auto parts stores in support of objectives 3 and 4.

We discussed budgeting for events but made no changes at this time because we did not have a quorum present for voting late in the meeting.

We decided that organizers should make arrangements in advance to assure that there is a capable registrar and tech inspector for their event.

Scott Dobler and the Solo II Committee are going to develop a draft of supplemental regulations for our Solo II events to submit for approval of the Board and/or membership.

We discussed affordable trophies for local events, and will try to have something by the next Solo II event.

Secretary, Chattanooga Region

March Meeting Minutes
March 4, 2003 -- Komatsu

Minutes from CR SCCA Meeting March 4, 2003

We had 32 members and guests at our March meeting at Komatsu.

The minutes of our previous meeting were approved as posted on the web site.

According to our Treasurer, Gerald Street, we have approximately $7,000.00. Bill Perry reports that he has the IRS return ready to mail. He also reported that we will now be able to handle funds from and to Topeka by bank transfer rather than by mailing checks.

Total persons entered in last year's events in our region were as follows:

Road Rally - 76
Autocross - 433
RallyCross - 99
ClubRally - 56

Our next event will be a Learn-to-Rally Rally School on Saturday March 8th and Big O's Pizza in Cleveland. Registration is at 10:00 am. The $20.00 entry fee includes lunch.

Since the meeting, we have finalized arrangements to have our next Autocross's at Chattanooga Auto Auction. They will be Sunday, March 23rd and April 27th.

Our next RallyCross will be Saturday April 19th at the site in Resaca, GA. Wilson von Kessler will handle the paper work for this event, but he will not be able to run the event and needs a volunteer to handle it. Wilson also reminded us that there would be a RallyCross this Sunday in Huntsville.

Due to job pressures, Travis has asked Scott Dobler to be Co-Chair with him for the Solo II program.

Bill Perry reports that he has a meeting scheduled next week with the new ranger in Tellico and hopes to get approval for a ClubRally in November. If approval is granted, we will then need to approach the town of Tellico Plains and get their help in locating a place for service and a Spectator Stage.

Wilson von Kessler has been looking for another site for a ClubRally and may have found some roads (about 35 miles of them) on Taylor's Ridge in Georgia that would be suitable. He is following up with a letter to the landowners. These same roads were used for Rally about 10 years ago.

The Alabama Region is holding the first race at the new Barber track March 15-16. Bill Perry is assigned to the SOM's and Gail Perry is working in registration. The RE of the Alabama Region has asked to borrow our generator for the registration tent (no building yet for registration).

We voted to send in sanction applications for Autocross and RallyCross events on our schedule as soon as we can. This gets them listed in the SportsCar Magazine. The Solo and Rally committees have been asked to determine the chairman and safety steward of their scheduled events, and send the sanction applications to Bill Perry to send on to Topeka.

Proper execution of waiver forms was discussed. We will be putting information on our web site about minor waivers as soon as possible. Guidelines will also be posted in the event trailer.

The points keepers for the various series will stay the same, except Mike Strawbridge will do the Road Rally and ClubRally points. Jamie Hamilton will keep points for our Speed Freakz program.

The Speed Freakz program is changing considerably on June 1st. It will be re-named First Gear and will apply to members age 21 and under. More information will be available on the SCCA page.

ROAD RACE REPORT: Art Thompson reported on the races at Road Atlanta last week-end. Will Perry won the SARRC race and Art was 3rd. Anthony Henderson finished 3rd in class in his SARRC race. Early Sunday morning, Art Thompson won a close race in the Endurance event. Art also reported that all our Chattanooga Region Road Racers plan to go to the race March 15-16 at the new Barber track. We will soon have another Road Racer in the region - Dave Hester is going to the Double Driving School in St. Louis soon.

RALLYCROSS REPORT: Wilson von Kessler reports that there will not be a divisional RallyCross program in SEDIV this year. We have several events scheduled and Huntsville has eight events scheduled.

ROAD RALLY REPORT: Mike Strawbridge recently competed and won a Georgia Sports Car Club event.

PERFORMANCE RALLY REPORT: Cherokee Trails International Rally plans are progressing. A Secretary for the Rally has been hired and the office will soon be opened in Chattanooga. The entry fee has been set at $575.00 plus $50.00 license fee for the driver and co-driver. John Buffam and Noel Lawler plan to be here with their Tiberon's. The site for the service area or the spectator stage has not yet been determined.

We finished the meeting with videos and rally stories.

Secretary, Chattanooga Region

February Meeting Minutes
February 11, 2003 -- Holiday Trav-L-Park

The meeting was called to order with 35 members and guests present.

The minutes from the previous meeting were approved as posted on the website.

Downshift: It was decided that each of the committees, Solo II and Rally, would send an article to Leah for each issue of the Downshift. As Leah was unable to attend the meeting the decision whether to make the Downshift monthly or bi-monthly was deferred.

Everyone considered the Riverboat to be a great place for our year-end awards banquet. We plan to reserve it again for January 10th, 2004.

Small Region Achievement 2002Report from SEDIV & National conventions:

As most everyone knows by now, the Chattanooga Region was once again awarded the small region “Region Achievement Award”. Thanks to everyone who worked hard and helped to make last year successful.

The Southeast Division won the RoadRally Achievement Award.

The Atlanta Region did not get the National Solo II event.

There are plans underway to license rally workers. Bill Perry volunteered to be the Division Administrator for licensing.

In place of the Speed Freakz program, there will be a program created called “First Gear”.

We had a drawing for “stuff” brought back from the convention; clocks, license plate frames, Yokohama poster, magazines, hats, model car, etc.

Our Solo II committee members present reported that they have not found a possible site for events in 2003.

Mike Strawbridge reports he is planning to have the “Learn to Rally” Road Rally School again this year on March 8th.

Our Speed Freakz Coordinator/Membership Chairman, Jamie Hamilton, reports that we now have 46 Speed Freakz members. She and Tiffany Fitzgerald are planning several programs to get them more involved in our club, including a points system to select the “Speed Freakz-of-the- Year”. Jamie reports we now have 161 members.

Rally lies were told for about 45 minutes. Some truth may have snuck in but it was undetectable.

Art Thompson invited attendance at Road Races March 1 at Road Atlanta and March 15 at the new Barber track in Birmingham.

Our next meeting will be March 4th. We will send out a notice when a location is finalized.

January Board Meeting Minutes
January 7th, 2003 -- Smokey's
  1. Ottis Airhart is preparing a Divisional RallyCross Series proposal which Kendall may present at the SEDIV meeting at Jekyll Island on January 18th.

  2. Leah Barrett has volunteered to be our Newsletter Editor. Jamie is contacting members and asking for an e-mail address to cut mailing costs. Submit articles, events reports, photos, etc. to Leah. We hope to have a SpeedFreakz article in each issue. If you have a name to suggest for this column, let Leah know.

  3. Will Perry has agreed to continue as Licensing Chairman.

  4. Jamie Hamilton has agreed to continue as Membership Chairman.

  5. Tiffany has agreed to continue as SpeedFreakz Coordinator (with a lot of help from Jamie).

  6. Publicity Chairman position won't be filled just now.

  7. Committees: Bill plans that a lot of the detail work will happen within Committees, avoiding tying up the whole board or membership in discussions of details.
    Committees are:

Solo II Committee Chairman - Travis Fitzgerald is Chairman
Committee - Brian Flanagan, Nathan Peters, Dave Hester and Tiffany Fitzgerald

Rally Committee Co-chairmen - Mike Strawbridge and Wilson von Kessler
Performance Rally Committee -  Ken Blain and Randy Bailey
Road Rally Committee - Alan Syler and Scott Dobler

  1. Decided to continue our policy of allowing the general membership to vote on items that our By-laws state shall be voted on by the Board of Directors; except in cases where some member of the Board raises an objection.

  2. Decided to leave the events fees at: RallyCross - $30/$25 and AutoCross - $25/$20, for non-members/members.

  3. There has been a proposal for an Inter-Regional Solo II series, but we voted against it for now as we have lost our event site. The Solo II Committee may vote to change this decision later, after we secure a site for 2003.

  4. We hope to be able to send a firm schedule to SportsCar and Grassroots Motorsports for publication.

  5. The February meeting will be on February 11th at the Holiday Trav-L Park at 7:00.
