Moroso Motorsports Park Drivers School -- September 9-10, 2000

A new member of Chattanooga Region, Dwight Floyd, attended his first Driver's School. He drove his Baby Grand racecar, which ran trouble-free. We hear he drove well and passed with flying colors.

Vesa hasn't driven in the rain yet.
Maybe these damp sessions will keep him
our of trouble when it really rains.

Another great weekend of racing!

Vesa Silegren, Will Perry and Bill Perry joined this event in their ITC class Hondas. Crewing were Art Thompson, George Lewis, Carl Blevins and Gail Perry. Dave Hester worked corners, Dave Marino worked Tech and Jamie Hamilton worked Timing & Scoring. Pretty good participant representation for our region, and in addition our area sent several spectators.

For Sunday' s race, Will qualified second in ITC and started outside the first row. In the race, Will had a battle for first place throughout the 15 laps, but pulled out another win in a good field. Vesa raced hard and made it up to second, but finished third. Bill raced with restricted RPM' s due to an engine built the Wednesday before the race, and finished seventh.

On Monday, Will qualified first in ITC with his best lap ever: 1:51.662. He started on the outside pole again, beat only by an SSB Miata. He battled a few laps with another former ARRC Champion, Walt Puckett, but pulled away for the win and second overall. Then Vesa took up the battle with Puckett. Vesa ended up in third by a blink. Bill battled for all the 15 laps with another senior driver, John Fine, in an identical Civic. They exchanged positions frequently, sometimes twice per lap due to the big draft produced by the little square-backed cars. Bill took the lead for good in this battle on about lap 8 and finished 8th overall. (I never realized seniors could have this much fun!)

The ITC field in this race was so competitive that four ITC cars finished in front of the first place ITB car. And all this great racing and not a scratch on an ITC car.

The Rivergate drivers are having a great year. So far Vesa has 8 first place finishes, Will has 8 firsts and Jamie Blair has 6. With Carl' s two ECR wins, this gives the Pod 24 wins! I wonder if another Region this small has had so much success.
