April 28-29, 2001 -- Chattanooga Region's Rivergate Racers were only able to get one of our ITC Hondas down for this double event. Turns out that was enough. Will Perry took the very successful trip with his CRX. He qualified first of 17 starters in ITC on Saturday and first of 14 on Sunday. In both races he led the whole way, pulling out on second place at about one second per lap for two wins.

Crewing were Jamie Hamilton and Bill & Gail Perry. Occasional Rivergater, Eric Alemina joined us for this event. He ran low on fuel Saturday and dropped back. But Sunday he raced hard to a third place finish in his ITC Scirocco.

The sand surrounding the track was extremely dry. This caused cars going off-course to dig in badly. This caused several cars to flip. One of them was a Rabbit that did a multi-loop flip at turn two. Workers, under the protection of a yellow flag at turn one, had to respond across the track. Two IT7 Mazdas passed Will under the yellow approaching the accident area. In respect for the workers taking chances to cross the track to check on the driver of the Rabbit, and all the others like them, Will filed a protest against the two IT7 drivers. Using Will's in-car video for evidence, the Stewards of the Meet awarded the drivers a penalty of a three-race probation.
