Roebling Road Double SARRC Road Race

April 26-27, 2003 -- Jim Stark Double SARRC

Chattanooga sent three racers and at least one worker to Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah for the Jim Stark Memorial on the weekend of April 26 and 27. This was a double SARRC weekend with one race on each day.

First out on Saturday was Rusty White in his twin turbo Rx-7. Unfortunately, the same turbo gremlins, or at least some of their cousins, came back to haunt him again. After about a half lap in practice the turbo lost boost. Rusty brought the car in and was unable to complete the weekend beyond that point.

Next out was Michael Cartwright, driving a BMW in the ITS class. He finished 10th in an 11 car field on Saturday, but didn't run the Sunday race.

Will Perry continued his winning streak by finishing first in ITC on both days. He finished ahead of 9 other cars on Saturday and 8 on Sunday. This gives him six wins in six starts this year, five of which count towards year end SARRC points. One interesting topic of discussion in the paddock was about an ITC Sirocco from Tennessee that was able to outrun Spec Miatas on the straights. Something about gear ratios and compression ratios.

Bill Perry continued his Steward In Training this weekend as a race official.

All told, the weekend provided good, clean racing in most groups. The only down side was that the long delays between races caused the schedule to drag out.
