Double SARRC July 8-9, 2006
For this Alabama Region double SARRC weekend at Roebling Road there were 8 ITC cars entered. Will and myself made the trip down from the Chattanooga region. Jamie, David, Art, Ruthie and Theresa were crewing. After some tow vehicle troubles we finally got to the track late on Friday. Since we were group five we had time to do the mandatory stuff on Saturday morning. The qualifying sheets for Saturday showed #38 in 1st , David Stephens 2nd and Will 3rd. In the race Will got around David for second. In Sundays qualifying I had a, what Derek Bell calls a “tankslapper”. Got a little out off shape in turn five on the first lap. Ended up taking the John Deere route in to turn six. Will qualified 1st with #38 right behind and David Stephens 3rd. For the race I was looking to buy new rear tires but I was too late since Hoosier had already closed shop. Ended up having the Goodyear guys flip the tires for me. It worked out fine in the end. At the start I got off the line pretty good but Will found a little spot inside going into turn one and stayed there. He had the lead for first handful of laps. After a few laps my rear tires had cleaned up (from the flips) and I was able to work my way up to first place. On lap ten, Will got a run on the inside of an ITB Golf going into to turn five and passed him. However the Golf crossed right back over on inside of Will and they touched coming out of the turn, putting #36 into the “kitty litter” (an other Derek Bell). #38 finished 1st, David Stephens 2nd, Will classified 8th. The weather was very nice for the whole weekend. Humidity was low which made it pleasant. From all the talk down there the track is now being repaved. Thanks to Art for helping Theresa with the tire temperature/pressure checks. -- Vesa Silegren |
