Learn-to-Rally Rally RoadRally

June 1, 2002 -- Cleveland, TN

The Learn-to-Rally Rally was a big success. We had 8 ½ entries. Sorry Joey's navigator cancelled on him. Every one did leg one correctly. Every one did leg two incorrectly. Being able to see the special instruction sign from Jimmie's Flowers seemed to draw every one into talking the pause. Leg three began to be the tie breaker leg with about half the teams getting the pause correct. Scott has decided to install brakes on the right side of the Talon as he could not get Jamie to slow down enough before arriving at control 4 exactly one minute early. Carl made an excellent demonstration of why passing is sometimes necessary in a control zone. He put his Ford Ranger on the mark at the correct time even though the spot was occupied by Jamie and My Talon. Great driving Carl! Working the control was a little hectic as it seemed every one wanted to arrive at the same time regardless of their schedule one minute intervals. Alan did a great job of remembering how to work controls and got every one timed in. I need to stress control operation in the next driver's meeting however as there was some confusion about where to stop. Those who stopped where Alan was timing them made it exciting for those who followed. Several people left asking for another rally so I assume they learned that rally can be fun and exciting.
