The KWIK KOOL Tee Shirt GTA Autocross Series stopped at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia, today, and was greeted by hot and humid sunshine on this Father’s Day. Perhaps because of the "holiday," only 84 drivers took on the Dick Berger (Full Moon Racing) designed course.

Most drivers expressed admiration of this course that averaged in the low 60 second range. It was tight at the start and gradually opened up from there, featuring one 3 cone slalom and the rest just great corners leading into the "Puckers" a series of flat out offsets to the finish lights.

Resident "Spead Freakz" poster boy, Clint McMahan, Covington, continued his dominance of FTD in the KK-GTA events by turning a 52.226 to also win FM over car owner, Jim Murphy, Atlanta, in their Daredevil F440.

Hottest of the stockers was Tommy Pulliam, Avondale Estates, driving his black Mazda RX-7tt to the quick time of a low 56 seconds. Close on his heels was Steve Waters, Smyrna, who showed up in a white SS Corvette ZR1 and turned a 57.544, followed by Rick Cone, Lawrenceville, with a 57.602 in his BS Miata.

Street Prepared aces Heath McMillan, Woodstock, and Doug Greenup, Marietta, continue to run at the front of all SP competitors while trying to determine which CRX will win the six car CSP class. McMillan turned a 56.027 while Greenup could manage "only" a 56.436.

Only Rick Tinsley, Kennesaw, was faster than the SP cars with his E-Prepared Honda Civic with a 55.513 for the quickest fendered time. But Dick Berger, Douglasville, tried to keep Tinsley honest with a 56.547 in his CP Corvair.

In the spirit of Father’s Day there were several father-son and father-daughter teams running today. Brett Howell, Suwanee, began autocrossing last year in a VW Fox and switched to a DSP Honda Civic in ’98. Brett’s dad, Hank Howell, Acworth, started racing this year. Up until today, Brett has been regularly spanking his dad but Hank got his Father’s Day revenge to win DSP today. Only the future will tell us if this new trend will hold.
